A senior post-doctoral researcher at TU Wien, Dr. Florina Piroi is involved in interdisciplinary and Industry related projects in the domain of data science, focusing on data analytics / machine learning and underlying processes. She is currently coordinating the “iDSDL: Innovationslehrgang Data Science and Deep Learning”. She has received her PhD degree in 2004, from the Johannes Kepler University, Linz, Austria, where her work concentrated on management and retrieval of mathematical knowledge and on automatic theorem provers. Before that she has obtained an MSc degree in Parallel and Distributed Computing and a BSc degree in Computer Science from the “University of the West”, Timișoara, Romania. Building on her previous work, Florina Piroi is currently an Information Retrieval researcher with experience in domain specific search (e.g. search in patent data, medical data, scientific and mathematical repositories), search engine evaluation and running evaluation campaigns. She has a strong interest and broad knowledge of the Data Science, Machine Learning, and Natural Language Processing research areas and has been co-supervising MSc and PhD students in this area for the past 5 years. Most recently, one of these co-supervisions has led to the founding of a start-up company under the umbrella of the TU Wien i2c Innovation Incubator Center, focusing predominantly on translating research output into innovative services.
